Burnt-Out Candles in Arc Raiders: What Players Need to Know

Post by MythicGlow »

What Are Burnt-Out Candles?

Burnt-Out Candles are classified as a Trinket, which is a category of small, mostly cosmetic items in Arc Raiders. They’re considered common, and their main feature is purely aesthetic—they don’t provide direct combat benefits or upgrades. In other words, they’re not going to make you stronger or faster, but they can be collected and displayed in your Raider Den.

The flavor text in the game makes it clear: after the grid fell, candles became a reliable light source, unlike electricity. The joke, of course, is that they’re fragile—wind or rain can ruin them. It’s mostly thematic, but it adds to the atmosphere of scavenging in the game world.

Where Can You Find Burnt-Out Candles?

In practice, these trinkets are easy to encounter. There are two main sources:

Residential Areas – You’ll often find them in houses and apartments. If you’re exploring for loot, it’s worth checking side rooms and cabinets.

Old World Locations – Abandoned buildings and older industrial zones occasionally contain them.

From personal experience, Residential areas are more consistent. Old World locations sometimes require more risk, because enemy spawn rates are higher, and environmental hazards are more common.

Most players tend to pick up Burnt-Out Candles whenever they find them, even if they don’t plan to use them immediately. They stack up nicely, with a stack size of 15, so you can carry a fair amount without filling your inventory.

How Do Burnt-Out Candles Work in Practice?

One of the first questions new players ask is: “Can I use Burnt-Out Candles like other trinkets for loot bonuses?” The answer is no. Although they fall under the Trinket category, Burnt-Out Candles cannot go in Looting Mk. 2’s Trinket Augmented Slots. This means you can carry them, display them, or sell them, but you won’t gain passive benefits.

That said, many players still collect them for several reasons:

Aesthetic Appeal: Displaying candles in the Raider Den can add a personal touch to your base.

Trading or Selling: Even though they’re common, there’s always a small market. I’ve seen players exchange them for more useful trinkets or materials. This is where knowing the market helps—sometimes it’s more efficient to sell multiple stacks at once.

For those looking to save time, there are also third-party options. Some players choose to buy items directly from other sources. If you’re looking to expand your collection, you can sometimes buy Arc Raiders items for cheap prices online, which saves a lot of scavenging effort, though it’s not part of standard gameplay.

Are Burnt-Out Candles Worth Collecting?

It depends on your goals. If you’re focused on combat efficiency, resource farming, or progression, Burnt-Out Candles are largely irrelevant. You won’t get any bonuses from them in combat or crafting.

If your goal is collection, trading, or decorating your Raider Den, then yes—they are worth picking up. Collectors often aim to have every cosmetic or trinket, and Burnt-Out Candles are a simple way to fill out that inventory. They’re common enough that you won’t have trouble finding multiples, but rare enough to have some novelty.

In practice, I usually grab them if I’m already exploring Residential areas, but I don’t go out of my way for them. Players who are new to the game should prioritize gear, weapons, and augmentations first.

Historical Notes

Burnt-Out Candles were added in Update 1.7.0. Before that patch, they didn’t exist in the game. The introduction didn’t change gameplay mechanics—this was more of a cosmetic addition. Many players at the time saw them as a small, flavorful touch, reflecting the collapse of electrical infrastructure in the game’s world.

Since then, their role hasn’t changed. They remain a collectible Trinket with no effect on combat performance or looting.

Tips From Experience

From running hundreds of scavenging runs, here’s what I can tell you about handling Burnt-Out Candles:

Stack Smart: Keep them in stacks of 15 to maximize inventory space.

Don’t prioritize: Unless you’re collecting, don’t let them take the place of materials or combat gear.

Check every room: In Residential areas, candles tend to spawn in smaller rooms or cabinets that players often skip.

Sell strategically: A single stack sells for 640 coins, so they’re not worthless if you want quick cash for minor upgrades.

Display creatively: If you enjoy decorating Raider Den, candles can add small but noticeable aesthetic value.

Common Misconceptions

Many new players assume that Burnt-Out Candles are useless because they can’t go in Trinket Augmented Slots. In reality, they serve a niche but meaningful purpose:

They are collectible and can be sold for coins.

They add cosmetic flair to your Raider Den.

They occasionally appear in missions or loot runs where you might otherwise ignore smaller items.

Understanding this distinction helps prevent frustration and makes scavenging feel more rewarding.

Burnt-Out Candles aren’t a game-changer. They don’t improve your combat abilities, augment your looting, or unlock new skills. But for players interested in collection, decoration, or minor trade value, they’re a solid, low-risk addition to your inventory.

From a practical standpoint, treat them as icing on the cake: grab them if you see them, stack them smart, and use them to decorate or sell as needed. They reflect the small, atmospheric details in Arc Raiders that make the world feel alive—even if it’s just a candle flickering in an abandoned house.
