Fiat 500 Abarth battery gave up in a Jumeirah Beach Road traffic jam, never been so embarrassed in my life
I don't know if I should laugh or just sell the car at this point but yesterday I'm sitting in the usual evening gridlock near the Burj Al Arab with the little Abarth burbling away and the AC thankfully keeping me from melting and then the stop start kicks in at the lights and when I go to press the clutch the whole car just dies like someone pulled the plug on a toaster, no crank no dash lights no hazard lights nothing just me sitting there with cars honking behind me and a very annoyed Porsche Cayenne driver gesturing at me while I'm frantically trying to figure out how to even open the boot on this thing without power because the battery on these 500s is buried under the spare tire and you need to climb through the back seat like a gymnast just to get to the manual release, I ended up getting a jump from a very kind Emirati gentleman in a Patrol who probably thought I was driving a toy car but it got me home and now I'm looking for someone who actually knows these Italian electrics because I've heard the BCM on these Abarths can be a bit dramatic if you just yank the battery and slap a new one in, I found a page at batteryzoneuae.com/fiat-battery-replacement and it looks like they carry the specific EFB stop start units for the 500 and they do mobile installs but I'm a little worried the guy is going to show up and take one look at the cramped little Italian engine bay and just sigh heavily, anyone here with a Fiat or an Abarth actually had a smooth mobile battery swap where they didn't break the plastic battery tray or leave the terminal loose so the car dies again at the next set of lights?
